I grew up in England and spent a great deal of time drawing, with much encouragement from my grandfather who had a lot of influence in my development. From then on I have sustained an interest in the visual arts. I'm fortunate that my husband is also an artist, painting and teaching oil technique. When we moved to Colorado we set up a studio in our home, he for his oil painting and me for - what? I had a decision to make regarding the medium I found the most rewarding. Because of my interest in both drawing and painting my husband gave me a set of pastels and my life completely changed. Here I could draw and paint at the same time and I made rapid progress. I have won numerous awards in Colorado shows and sold paintings here and in England.
I paint plein air in spring, summer and autumn finishing works if need be in the studio. During the winter it's all studio work as I haven't yet mastered the art of freezing and enjoying myself!
I am passionate about the west and its breathtaking scenery and take many painting trips to New Mexico and Utah. Here on the western slope of the Rockies in Colorado the scenery is so diverse, with mountains, streams snow and abundant sunshine and then the wonderful desert region, which breathes inspiration into my work. Light and color abound and I try to capture the atmosphere, which inspires each painting. I like to make sketches and carefully plan my compositions but sometimes I just have to jump right in, it's such an emotional thing.
I have taken many workshops from renowned pastelist of the West and also from oil and watercolorists.
Sally Strand; Lorenzo Chavez: Bruce Gomez; C.J. Chadwell; Dan Young; Kurt Isgreen have all helped and inspired me. I am currently represented by The Blue Pig Gallery, 119 W. 3rd St, Palisade. CO 81526 and Artistic Images, 2115 Whitesburg Drive, Huntsfille, AL.
